How can I know you completely?

It’s not that I don’t want to,
Or that I don’t try.

But there is a barbed wire fence,
Separating me from total understanding.

When I try to cross,
I get cut,
I bleed.

I can see the sharp projections clearly,
But still I try to haphazardly jump.

The way that I think affects my judgments,
It does not lead me to conclusions,
On how best to circumnavigate this fence.

The worst part is that I see you,
Standing on the other side.

I try to tell you to come to me,
But you don’t understand,
Even as I speak I hear my words echo back,
And they are not the words I spoke.

Your misunderstanding causes you to get cut,
By that fence that keeps us both at bay.

Our only choice is to walk along its length,
Watching each other as we both look for a gap.

Despite I being here and you being there,
We both know the love that is in our hearts.

For me that love will never change,
No matter how many times I bleed.

I want you to know that somehow,
We will find a way,
Of understanding.

Through love and time,
I can know you completely.
