JPL Amateur Radio ClubPut your “Lessons Learned” here 1) In the N1MM logging software don’t turn-off “multi-user mode” after the contest has been started - instead disable the wireless network connection using the Wi-Fi “adapter Quick Launch” icon in the lower right hand corner of the Windows desktop. 2) Make sure that the N1MM log databases for all of the networked computers are set for “multi-multi” (HF1 was set for “single-op” which I suspect is the cause of the transmitter lock-out problem that Stan and Mark experienced). 3) Make sure that the “Station Information” (accessed via the “Change Your Station Data” command under the “Config” tab) for each of the N1MM log databases in the network are setup the same. If this setup information doesn’t match between computers it can cause problems with the log file QSO data handshaking between computers in the network. The N1MM help file suggests that the best way to insure that there are no discrepancies between the log databases is to setup the database for one computer and then copy it to the remaining computers in the network. 4) For some reason N1MM scored AM and FM QSOs as 2 points each. The ARRL FD rules state that “phone” QSOs count 1 point each. 5) We have Mt. Gleason reservations for the next 5 years but we need to provide the forest service a new Certificate of Insurance form every year from lisa.telles@caltech.edu at 626 395 6324. 6) Porta-Pottie rental requires someone with the key at Mt. Gleason to allow pickup on Monday. 7) Tables and Chair rental needs delivery on Thursday and pickup on Monday. Inform the South Gate On-Line before the truck with Tables and chairs arrives so they have them on the access list. 8) The loading and unloading at JPL requires only 2 hours with a minimum of 4 people (more is easier but not much faster) 9) Step Van requires pickup Friday morning and be returned Sunday afternoon 10) Emergency Communications Van can handle VHF station and power GOTA and food cooking with electricity and coffee pot if the power is distributed on several circuit breakers using one generator. 11) Tower Trailer Generator can handle 2 HF Stations 12) 2 HF stations 100ft from tower trailer had no interference between 80, 75, 40, 20, 15, 10 13) Only 1 HF station was ready at 11 AM Saturday. We had a maximum of 8 people at any given time working on Antennas and Station setup. That is just enough to raise 1 station at a time. 14) The Wetzel Bolt Launcher does an excellent job of getting a 40 meter Dipole up to the tree tops. 15) The weight of the 80 meter Inverted Vee on a 20 ft pole at the top of the Trailer Tower would lean over heavily. A counterbalance line should be used to keep the pole vertical 16) There were more bands open and time available on the stations to operate than operators Page last modified on September 01, 2009, at 11:46 AM |
